Our award-winning School is a not-for-profit organisation, with all profit reinvested into the School and its facilities. Our vision is to provide the very best in teaching and to offer a holistic learning experience that is practical, fun and career-building.
We believe that we’re better than the rest. We’ll teach you design, making and restoration skills – and we’ll bring out your creative best. Not only that, but you’ll graduate within nine months. Our course encompasses every element of fine woodworking, with a team of in-house and visiting experts. Our mission is to fire your creative imagination and give you the skills to set up in business as a furniture designer.
We encourage creative and collaborative learning; we organise informative and enjoyable field trips; we allow for up to 1400 hours of practical bench-work on your own projects; and we provide marketing and website support to assist you in setting up your own business. We have office and welfare staff to deal with everything from accommodation and transport to health and well-being, and we are an organisation registered and approved by the Department of Employment for UK-related Career and Development Loans.
Our vision and values are all about teaching excellence and giving you the skills and confidence for success, from encouraging and nurturing your creativity, to the practical application of your imagination – the creation of beautiful furniture.
Underlining that promise, when you successfully graduate, you will also be entitled to enrol into the Fine Furniture Guild, an exclusive association of Chippendale alumni, which is a worldwide portal to connect our former students with customers internationally – another good reason to choose Chippendale!
After graduation, you can also rent low-cost bench space in adjoining Chippendale incubator workshops where you can continue to benefit from our tutors, machine tools, woodworking community, contacts and encouragement.
Anselm Fraser, our principal, set up the School over 30 years ago. He is regarded as one of the UK’s leading exponents of furniture making and design, as well as being an inspirational teacher who marries the 18th century values of Thomas Chippendale with 21st century techniques.
Anselm combines the demanding job of furniture School principal with running his own award-winning furniture design and restoration businesses, Anselm Fraser Furniture and Bespoke Wood Kitchens – so that students can see first-hand how a modern, professional cabinet making business operates.
