A life of sea and wood

Oli Juliusson from Hafnarfjardur in Iceland was a fisherman for ten years, before deciding to swap the trawler’s net for a chisel.

He fished the Icelandic waters for cod, herring and red fish, often away from home for up to 30 days.

Oli first came across the school on the internet about six years ago and, as he says, “I couldn’t get it out of my head.”

He also looked at other woodworking schools, but the Chippendale seemed “authentic and real.”

In looking to a new career, Oli sees a spirituality in woodworking and his plan is to return to Iceland after graduation, making furniture that pays homage to the hard lives experienced by Icelandic fishermen.
