“I was encouraged by the small class size, and the amount of hands-on experience the program provided. I really liked that the students were of all ages and nationalities. …This furniture course also provided an opportunity for a great adventure!”

Looking for a professional furniture design course?

Every year we welcome students from the USA.

The Chippendale International School of Furniture is a leading UK furniture school established 30 years ago in Scotland. Intake is limited to only 22 students per furniture course, ensuring excellent 1:1 tuition and a buzzing woodworking community.

The furniture school runs professional furniture making courses and cabinet making courses, so that our students quickly become talented woodworkers.

Students on our cabinet making courses quickly master a wide range of woodworking techniques in furniture design, furniture making, furniture restoration, woodworking and cabinet making.

The Chippendale School of Furniture’s unique approach is practical and hands-on.  On our intensive furniture making course you learn the same skills in 9 months as on many 3 year courses – and we offer you the opportunity to make the pieces of furniture that YOU want to make!

In the autumn of 2014, one American student commented that “Approximately one-third of U.S. college graduates is unemployed.  It is not easy to get a job when 92 million others are similarly unemployed.  To me, as an entrepreneur, the better choice is self-employment.  A nine-month curriculum that teaches professional-level woodworking and business start-up techniques is, by comparison to colleges, an excellent investment of time, energy and money.  Whether a graduate uses what they learn at Chippendale right after graduation or not – this education provides a self-employment option any time in almost any location for a lifetime.  That is great value and permanent security.”

And it all happens in close to Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city and Europe’s festival city, with the school  Scotland’s inspiring countryside near Edinburgh, Europe’s festival city!

The Chippendale School is a not-for-profit company and we still have a few places on our course for October 2014.
