“The Chippendale course is very good and I learned a lot of things in the year. Now I have a good knowledge for my work – and I like to tell many people about my time at the school!”

The Chippendale International School of Furniture in Scotland welcomes furniture students from Hong Kong and China.

All you need is a love of working with wood! We welcome novices and those with some woodworking experience, entrepreneurs, career changers and hobbyists.

Founded in 1985 and based near Edinburgh in Scotland, the Chippendale School is the UK’s leading furniture school. We only give places to 24 students on each furniture course, ensuring excellent 1:1 tuition within a buzzing woodworking community.

Thomas Chippendale was the world’s most famous cabinet maker and his legacy lives on. At the Chippendale School, we aim to pass on his genius within a modern context.

On our intensive 9 month furniture courses, you learn to master over 80 woodworking techniques covering furniture design, furniture making, furniture restoration and cabinet making.

You acquire the same skills here in 9 months as on many 3 year courses, saving you time and lost earnings. It’s hard work but you’ll have a lot of fun too!

Our students tell us that they really like our furniture school because we provide:

  • An intensive, time-saving, comprehensive furniture course
  • Lots of workshop space
  • A collaborative woodworking community
  • A fun, life-changing experience
  • A real-world woodworking environment
  • An inspiring, creative, ‘think different’ environment
  • A strong business and career focus
  • A stunning location in Scotland, Europe’s most beautiful country (we think so!)
  • Genuine value for money

As an international furniture school it should be easy for you to obtain your Student Visa as we have Highly Trusted Sponsor status with the UK Borders Agency (we’re on the Tier 4 Register of Sponsors).

As far as English speaking is concerned, a CEFR level B1 score is adequate.  The school can recommend experienced language tutors for one-to-one tuition or group work.  We find that living and working here is a great way to improve language skills.
