“I have thoroughly enjoyed the course and learnt a lot on it that I will take with me into setting up my business as a furniture maker.”

Zach Evelyn, Barbados

The Chippendale International School of Furniture is located in beautiful countryside near Edinburgh in Scotland, UK

As an international furniture school, many of our students come from outside the UK.  Our courses have welcomed students from the USA, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South Africa, the Middle East, Russia, Australia & New Zealand, India, Hong Kong and China, South Korea, Japan, as well as from Scotland and England.

Students’ backgrounds are interesting and diverse: from fashion design, art, architecture, music and architecture, to property, the armed services, IT, telecoms and banking.

Some students already have experience of wood working but many have none.  It doesn’t matter.  The overriding theme is that everyone loves wood and loves working with wood.

We also run Short Courses called The Chippendale Experience Course with the next one being held from 4th to 8th April 2016 (now fully booked, but a waiting list available) and then, later in the year, another one from 27th June to 1st July and, finally, the last Short Course for this year being held from 19th to 23rd September.  The short courses are intensive and fun, designed to give a good introduction to many aspects of woodworking as well as providing an opportunity for participants to experience life as a student at our school. For anyone who goes on to join the full-time course, the cost of the Short Course will be offset against the full course fees.

We are approved and registered for Professional Career and Development Loans (PCDLs) which are administered by Barclays Bank and the Co-Op Bank.  Loans of up to £10,000 can be applied for, within the agreed terms.  Our registration number for PCDLs is 4991.

Student visas

International students are required to have a visa and permission to study in the UK.  As an international furniture school it should be easy for you to obtain your Student Visa because we have Highly Trusted Sponsor status with the UK Borders Agency (we’re on the Tier 4 Register of Sponsors, Licence No 9K4C1UF57).

Unless you are eligible for an Ancestry Visa, you will be required to obtain a Student Visa under the Points Based System, which will allow you to remain in the UK for the full length of the course and stay on for two months at the end.

If you have any questions about obtaining your visa, please email or call us on (international code) (0)1620 810680.

English language

With students from all over the world, communication is central to our success so having a reasonable level of English language required. A TOEFL iBT level B1 score, or IELTS level B1 score, is adequate for participation in our course. The school can recommend experienced language tutors for one-to-one tuition or group work. We find that living and working in an English-speaking environment is a great way to improve language skills.
