Chippendale honour for Chippendale student

The Chippendale school is delighted to announce that Dr Adam Bowett, chairman of the Chippendale Society, will be awarding a prize to one of our students at a graduation event in Edinburgh this summer.

The Chippendale Society’s principal aims are to advance public education, to promote the appreciation and study of the work of Thomas Chippendale senior and junior, and to preserve and maintain examples of their work for the benefit of the nation.

Dr Bowett will be presenting the prize on behalf of the Society to the student whose work best reflects the ethos of what Thomas Chippendale stood for, and the kind of furniture that the great cabinetmaker would approve of now.

He is an independent furniture historian who works as a consultant on historic English furniture with public institutions, including the National Trust, English Heritage and the Victoria and Albert Museum, and with private clients in both Britain and North America.

He also teaches furniture history at universities and other institutions, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Buckinghamshire New University and West Dean College.

He is a renowned expert in the history of furniture, has published several books on historic furniture – including one on Thomas Chippendale – and is a director of the National Centre for Early Furniture and Art.

He will be presenting the prize at a public exhibition of our students’ work which takes place at Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh on Monday 11th June (afternoon only) and Tuesday 12th June (from 10am).
